Special Operations (continued)

The Hazardous Incident Response Team (HIRT) or “Haz - Mat” Team responds to various types of chemical, biological and radiological incidents. In addition to Hazardous Materials responses, HIRT members are certified in and respond to Structural Collapse, Confined Space and Trench Rescue incidents in support of the Technical Rescue Team.

Hazardous Incident Response Team 2024 projects and accomplishments

• Completed a re-chassis of the Hazmat Support Unit giving the team additional space for equipment to expand response capabilities. • Replaced four outdated HIRT meters with modern, updated models and purchased a new meter giving the Team vapor and gas detection capabilities for more than 5,000 products. • Several HIRT members took advantage of local, state and federal advanced training opportunities, further enhancing the team’s knowledge and response capabilities.
