Special Operations (continued)

Frederick County’s Technical Rescue Team responds on a variety of unique incidents that include high angle (rope) rescues, structural collapse, trench collapse, confined space rescues and mountain/trail rescues. The Technical Rescue Team also provides operational support for water rescue incidents.

Technical Rescue Team 2024 projects and accomplishments

• The Team received a Letter of Commendation from Maryland State Police Homicide Unit for the assistance they provided in locating a missing person. • The Team was awarded the 2024 Fire Safety Commendation in recognition of its accomplishments and outstanding contributions to protect human life and property. • The Team purchased an additional Paratech Trench Shoring Kit that significantly increases response capabilities for trench and structural collapse and allows for safer incident mitigation for victims and rescuers. • 24 additional members completed an intensive 80-hour course and obtained FEMA certification as Structural Collapse Specialists. • 65% of the team are certified as Structural Collapse Specialists or Structural Collapse Technicians • 71% of the team are certified as Trench Rescue Technicians. • 89% of the team are certified as Confined Space Rescue Technicians. • 100% of the team are certified as Advanced Rope Rescue Technicians. • The Team has nearly completed the build out of the new Technical Rescue Support Unit that will be placed in service in the near future. This will allow the Team to carry the necessary collapse equipment, expand the collapse response capabilities and deploy it in a more efficient manner.
