EMERGENCY SERVICES

Special Operations

The Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services’ Special Operations includes seven different specialty response teams capable of mitigating a variety of complex incidents. The technical nature, specialized equipment, and tactics required to mitigate these high-risk, low frequency events, necessitates that our members complete between 99 and 240 additional hours of specialized training depending on the discipline. Our Special Operations disciplines include:

Frederick County DFRS Special Operations continues to serve on the Maryland Department of Emergency Management’s Search and Rescue Task Force (MDEM SAR -TF) and remains a Participating Agency with FEMA’s Maryland Task Force One (MD -TF1). In 2024, Frederick County DFRS had seven personnel selected for positions as Rescue Specialist, Hazardous Materials Specialist, Canine Search Specialist and Technical Search Specialist with MD-TF1. DFRS Members deployed with the MD-TF1 in support of Tropical Cyclone Debby, Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton.
