Special Operations (continued)
Frederick County’s Technical Rescue Team responds on a variety of unique incidents that include high angle (rope) rescues, structural collapse, trench collapse, confined space rescues and mountain/trail rescues. The Technical Rescue Team also provides operational support for water rescue incidents.
Technical Rescue Team 2023 projects and accomplishments
• 24 members successfully completed an intensive 40-hour Structural Collapse Operations course through Spec Rescue International. These members are now certified in shoring and rescue operations involving lightweight and unreinforced masonry structures.
• The Team purchased its first Paratech Trench Shoring Kit and significantly increased its Airshore ART equipment thanks to generous donations from several agencies. • 73% of the team members are certified as Structural Collapse Technician 1 as well as Confined Space Rescue Technicians.
• 79% of the team members are certified as Trench Rescue Technicians.
• 16% of the team members are FEMA certified Structural Collapse Specialists. • In December the Team took delivery of a new Technical Rescue Support Unit that will be placed in service soon.
• After extensive research, the Team developed specifications for a new Collapse Response Unit that is now in production and will replace the existing collapse trailer. This unit will carry equipment and supplies needed for shoring trenches and structures.
