Leadership Development Initiative

The 2024 LDI course was held in November and completed by 21 members of DFRS. The intense training covered a variety of topics, including Mental Preparedness, Verbal and Non-verbal Communications, and Strategies and Tactics for Emergency Operations. This course is required for eligibility to take the competitive promotional exam for the rank of Lieutenant. The participants dedicated 24 hours of unpaid training to demonstrate their commitment to advancing within the division. The course was taught entirely by senior division personnel.

T he photo above shows a Doll House constructed by staff at the training center. These Doll Houses provide upcoming officers with a refresher on fire behavior within structures and demonstrate how ventilation impacts the movement of fire throughout a building.

Leadership Frederick County

Since 2021 the Division of Fire & Rescue Services has sponsored department leaders to attend the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Frederick program. This challenging nine-month program hosts a network of colleagues who are future leaders, that strive to develop the knowledge and build relationships often needed to effect change. The class was designed by distinguished county leaders coupled with graduate-level leadership masterclasses taught by organizational leadership experts from Hood College. This training has provided our staff intensive leadership training aimed to develop individual skills that tests our ability to be effective contributors to the division and citizens we serve.
