VOLUNTEER FIRE & RESCUE SERVICES

Volunteer corporations continue to upgrade equipment, purchasing new apparatus and support vehicles. Fundraising efforts remain as a significant part of the volunteer fire and rescue personnel’s lives, and a major factor in supporting the operations of each of the individual corporations. In total, ten corporations designed, purchased, and placed into service several fire and rescue apparatus in 2023. These individual corporations used money through grants, loans, donations, and fundraisers to purchase various types of apparatus. It takes many hours of planning to have fire and rescue apparatus designed and built from the ground up. The dedication and hours of work these volunteer companies put in to ensure apparatus is available and ready to answer the call is a testament to their continual dedication to the citizens of Frederick County.

Apparatus purchased by Volunteer Fire and Rescue Corporations in 2023:

Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department placed into service a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe Special Services Vehicle to replace its aging county-owned 2007 Ford Expedition duty vehicle which served Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department for 16 years. The new Tahoe will be designated as Chief 17. This Tahoe is equipped with a 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 with 355 hp, 10-speed automatic electronically controlled transmission along with 4 wheel drive and heavy-duty engine, oil, and transmission coolers.

Vigilant Hose Company placed into service a 2023 Road Rescue Ultra Medic/ Ford F550 Chassis, this unit has a Liquid Spring Suspension, Door Forward Concept, and an all-aluminum box. The new unit will be designated as Ambulance 68, it replaces a 2012 Ford that was placed out of service and donated to a Fire/Rescue Company in Kentucky.

Brunswick Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue Company placed in service a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe designated as Car 19. The new Chevrolet Tahoe replaced the 1999 Ford Expedition which was designated as Duty 19.
