On July 5, 2022, at 00:29, units were dispatched to an apartment complex in the Frederick area for a reported shooting. The 911 dispatcher reported there were two patients, and one was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle. Frederick Police Department arrived on scene and advised fire/rescue units to proceed into the scene. Ambulance 29, Engine 23, and Medic 2 arrived on scene to find a single patient in the courtyard area suffering from a gunshot wound to left groin area. A Frederick City Police Officer was holding direct pressure on the wound. The patient was moved to the stretcher and transferred to the ambulance for safety concerns. Once in the back of Ambulance 29, EMS 902 arrived on the scene. Medic 2 assisted EMS 902 with applying the junctional tourniquet to the actively bleeding groin wound. The bleeding was controlled with the junctional tourniquet in place however the patient was hypotensive due to blood loss. Paramedics established two large bore IV’s and administered Lactated Ringer’s fluid bol us while enroute to the Maryland State Police Aviation Hangar.
Upon arrival at the Maryland State Police Aviation Hangar, the patient was transferred to Trooper 3 for Priority 1 transport to Shock Trauma.
The patient was discharged from the hospital on July 10, after repair of the left external iliac artery. The patient is expected to make a full recovery.
