On March 7, 2022, at 0514 hours units were dispatched to a pediatric cardiac arrest. First arriving units (A29 & E22) arrived on scene and initiated high performance CPR. ALS crews responded and arrived quickly.

The BLS crew found a pediatric female in cardiac arrest, and they quickly and efficiently started treatment on the patient. After 2 minutes the AED analyzed, and the patient was defibrillated. Upon the arrival of ALS crews, the patient’s IO access was obtained, medications administered, and the patient was intubated. ROSC was achieved at 0535hrs, and the patient was transported to Frederick Health Hospital. During the transport, crews worked diligently to continue to stabilize the patient. The patient arrived at Frederick Health Hospital only 45 minutes after receiving the 911 call. The child was subsequently transferred to Johns Hopkins, where she was released to home neurologically intact and with no known deficit.

Without the quick response to the scene, the administration of life saving medications, and the thorough care provided, this child would have likely had a much worse outcome.
