CDL Drivers Training Program

As a result of a change to the Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) Laws, anyone wishing to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) on or after February 7, 2022, is required to complete an “entry -level driver training (ELDT) course” prior to taking the driver’s skills test at the MVA. Due to the cost private training agencies charge per applicant for the ELDT, it was deemed cost effective to create a CDL Driver Trainer position within DFRS to develop and manage an ELDT program for Frederick County Government to assist all County Divisions with employees needing to obtain a CDL. The new CDL Driver Trainer worked with a third-party provider to developed Frederick County’s program. The program was submitted to, and approved by, the FMC and Maryland MVA. Since receiving approval, the program has had 44 county employees and volunteer firefighters obtain their commercial driver’s license.
