On May 19, 2021, E11, A18, M31, EMS 902 were dispatched to 110 Alessandra Court, for a Cardiac Arrest. Upon arrival E11’s crew found the patient in cardiac arrest located on the floor next to the bed. Patient’s wife stated she was having a conversation with the patient when he suddenly collapsed to the floor and became unresponsive. E11’s crew upon arrival immediately began high performance CPR. A18’s crew arrived and applied the AED. The AED began analyzing and reported shock advised. E11’s crew continued CPR until A18’s crew delivered one shock to the patient. E11’s crew continued high performance CPR until they recognized a change in the patient status. The crew checked for a pulse and found a strong regular pulse. ROSC was declared. Crews moved patient out of bedroom to living room to allow better access for ALS providers. M31 arrived on scene and began ALS interventions. Patient was packaged and transported to FHH. In the days to follow, the patient was alert and oriented x 4 and left the ICU on May 25 to get a Cardiac Cath/ICD placement. Due to fast 911 activation, 911 call taker utilizing the compression monitor diagnostic tool and CPR coaching, and High-Performance CPR, crews were able to obtain ROSC prior to transport on the patient. Because of their dedication, and professionalism towards EMS and patient care they were successful in achieving a BLS resuscitation prior to ALS arrival. Once ALS arrived, they continued to provide treatment necessary to preserve the patient’s vital signs enroute to FHH which ultimately aided in an improved quality of life/outcome for the patient. As a result of the outcome for the patient as well as outstanding teamwork and professionalism the Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue would like to recognize the following personnel for a Meritorious Unit Citation.
