VOLUNTEER FIRE & RESCUE SERVICES

Accomplishments

• Volunteer companies purchased one fire engine, and three support vehicles in CY2021:

➢ Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company purchased new Engine 111. The unit is a 2021 Pierce with an Enforcer cab, 1,000 gallons of water, and 1,500 gallons per minute pump. It also has enhanced safety features, more lighting, a lower hose bed, and shorter overall length. All of these features will help better serve their growing Community.

➢ New Market District Volunteer Fire Company purchased Chief 15 a 2021 Dodge Ram 1500.

➢ Walkersville Rescue Company, Inc. purchased Utility 24 a 2021 Dodge Ram 350.

➢ Fire Prevention purchased a Homesteader 508IS cargo trailer to transport fire materials and the Fire Prevention Safety House.

• Standards inspections, pump and ladder testing was completed on all apparatus.

• DVFRS assisted in a limited number of special events due to the pandemic this year. Volunteers were able to support and assist in the Great Frederick Fair, Colorfest, and several local community and sporting events.

• Continued work on CIP building projects.

• Personal Protective Equipment Voucher Program for Volunteer Fire, Rescue and Ambulance Companies distributed 100 sets of new Protective Clothing.

• 2021 Insurance coverage improvements to management liability and employment practice policies.

• Volunteer records management and training module enhancements were improved this year. This is a comprehensive membership database managed by the division which accounts for volunteer participation in incidents and activity. The information is used for LOSAP, income tax benefits, worker’s compensation recording, training, and the annual fire/rescue accreditation process.

• Annual Compliance Training conducted at various companies.

• DVFRS conducted two Live Fire Training Days at the PSTF with multiple company participation.

• The Risk Management Office has been hard at work with volunteer services over the last year to revise and redevelop the process for driver authorization. Risk Management launched the Driver Authorization Notification System (DANS) used for new driver requests. Volunteer Services was involved in recertifying information on current drivers on the County Authorized Drivers list.
